Why A Boarding School?

Online research recently uncovered an article entitled “Study Reveals Boarding School Is Springboard for Success.” It is found at http://diverseeducation.com/article/3913/ if you want to see the full article. Since Wentworth Military Academy & College is a boarding school and since our mission is to help cadets and students achieve success, it caught my eye. If you go to the full article you will find 10 bullet points from the study. They all made me think of Wentworth.

For example, boarding students generally achieve more success professionally. We certainly have alums who exemplify this. We highlight some of them at our website. While here, cadets learn lifelong skills and acquire personal discipline as a part of their educational experience. Boarding school students are less involved socially in drugs and alcohol. According to the article, boarding students are more philanthropic as adults. Boarding schools provide a more diverse education. That is certainly reflected on our campus with cadets from over 30 states, 3 U.S. territories and 14 countries. We have been co-ed since the 1990’s encouraging equal opportunity for young women and men.

For the past 20 years, 100% of our Falcons (a special program for cadets who wish to attend the Air Force Academy) have been accepted by the Academy. For many years, 100% of our college bound high school graduates and our two-year college graduates have been accepted to college. According to the article, 87% of boarding school students said they felt prepared for college academically compared to 39% of public school students and 71% of private day students. At Wentworth, our most academically successful high school students can graduate with an Associate’s degree and only have two years left to complete a Baccalaureate program.
