Arduino Class to Kansas City 6/30/09
The class went to Kansas City last night to snoop around the Cowtown Computer Congress and get a little bit of inspiration. It was a small meetup but we got to see a bunch of coolness.
One maker had a humanoid robot that was controlled with digital servos. He went over competitions for robots, gave us a demonstration, and showed us some videos of robot competitions.
We nosed around and got to see a bunch of cool equipment and got some great ideas. We even may have a new field trip idea or two.

Summer Drown Proofing 6/15/09
Drown proofing is actually really fun. Cadets learn how to use ponchos to make a raft and how to use their pants and shirts as flotation devices. Most voted that the raft would fill up with water and sink. There was a round of applause when it was opened to reveal dry uniforms inside.

Farsi Trip 5/8/09
College cadets who took Farsi I and II went as a class to Independence/Overland Park on 8 May 2009 to experience what a Persian market and restaurant were like. The Bharti Market in Independence is an all Iranian food market that also sells Iranian magazines and movies. The class bought several types of Persian food and passed it around getting a taste of the Middle-eastern culture. The class then set off to KC Kabob, an Iranian restaurant in Overland Park, Kansas. They enjoyed a variety of Persian foods and then had a conversation with the restaurant owner, who is Iranian.
Football Field W 5/3/09
The "W" is being redone by Enrique Hilst's Eagle Scout Project. This project requires that he choose a project, plan the project, get the project approved by the school and the Big Muddy District Eagle Chairman, then to carry through and complete the project. Then he is to get approval from the school that the project is done to their satisfaction. When all this is done he will do a report that is sent into the National Boy Scout Headquarters for their approval. Then he will able to have his Eagle Scout board of review to receive his rank.

Zoo Trip 5/2/09
Saturday May 2nd was the 5th annual Spring trip for the Wentworth Military Academy Scouts. We went to the Omaha Zoo. All the Cadets and Leaders who I spoke to said that it was great. Personally I think this was one of the best trips we have taken. The weather was fine with sunshine all day. The Cadets where very excited about the animals and exhibits. We all walked a lot up and down hills and there are a lot of them. Of all the areas of the Zoo, I think most of us would say that the aquariam with the walk through glass tunnel was the best. The desert dome was really hot. I might mention that we had several Cadets who had never been to the Zoo before. - CPT Neil Crews, LPN

The Duck and Egg Drop
In April science class got a new student. A duckling! All the students had a chance to vote on a name for the baby. The winning name is McLoven. The duck will live in a cage in the science class room until school lets out in May. However, he (she, it) ? does not spend much time in his or her cage. Somebody is always ready and eager to duck sit.
On April 10, 2009 all of Mrs. Noble.s science classes were given a challenge. Create a container that would protect a raw egg dropped from a two story window. The results were creative. (There was a big prize on the line, a chocolate rabbit for every egg that survived). Students paired in to teams of two or three and brought their creations to class for the test. We had a few accidents, but a lot of success. The .Big Duck. award was given for the idea that showed the most creativity. This winning team of Ashley Allen and Mary Kuntzman created a geo-dome like structure out of paper with the egg nestled inside. Not only did the egg survive the drop the wind caught the dome and the egg rolled halfway down the parking lot intact! Honorable mention goes to Spencer Barr and Matt Ashmore for their shaving cream filled creation that had a soft landing due to the attached parachute. Unfortunately when he was trying to dig the egg out of the shaving cream Spencer put his thumb through the shell. (They got a bunny anyway.)

The day ended with a trip to the movies at the Cannonball 6. Many thanks to the WMA staff for all the hard work getting everything organized. Great Job Everyone!
