Wentworth Military Academy and College to launch Soccer Center of Excellence
New program to offer an intensive soccer training schedule that balances athletics and college preparatory academics to maximize results and personal development.
Wentworth Military Academy and College is proud to announce the formation of a new Soccer Center of Excellence (SCOE) in the fall of 2015. The SCOE will combine WMA’s proven 360° college preparatory education and a year around soccer training program within a single, competitive program. The SCOE will integrate a strong academic curriculum, next level soccer training and professional leadership instruction to develop the highest potential in every player.
The SCOE will provide a year-round soccer program for dedicated and passionate athletes who are serious about their soccer growth and development. The program’s goal is to produce technical, athletic, well-rounded student-athletes who are prepared to compete on the soccer field and in life. Players will train 5 days a week and receive speed, strength and agility training as well as mental conditioning classes in order to facilitate total development. The program will give all interested players the appropriate training and education and will constantly strive to take the players to the edges of their abilities.
The SCOE will be led by Director Andreas Commins, Wentworth Military College Men’s Head Coach and the USCAA Men’s Soccer, 2014 National Coach of the Year. Commins has over twenty years coaching experience at the youth, high school, collegiate club and collegiate levels, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Recreation and Sport Sciences with a Concentration in Soccer Coaching from Ohio University. Commins holds an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the NSCAA Special Topics Diploma in Mental/Physical Player Development and the NFHS/NSCAA Professional Development Certificate. He will be attending the NSCAA Premier course in the summer of 2015. “I am very proud of our new Soccer Center of Excellence program. I believe the program will offer to those selected to attend the highest level of soccer competition with an outstanding coach,” said WMA President Colonel Mike Lierman. “Coach Commins is an extremely dedicated coach and will provide a great opportunity for these players, to excel in both academics and athletic competition.”
The WMA Soccer Center of Excellence will launch for the fall semester of the 2015 academic year and will be originally comprised of one U15-U18 boys’ team. Teams will compete in the greater Kansas City premier soccer leagues as well as multiple regional, state, and national soccer tournaments. “We are looking for young athletes that aspire to reach their maximum potential in soccer while at the same time look to obtain an outstanding secondary education,” Commins said. “While we welcome applicants of all backgrounds, attending the WMA Soccer Center of Excellence will require players that value commitment, self-discipline, passion and dedication.
