Regis G. McDonald, LCSW, Senior Vice President for Programs & Policy at The Children’s Village and Vice Chair of the Wentworth Board of Trustee, recently was invited by the First Lady of Guatemala to attend the First Regional Child Migration Forum in Guatemala.
The First Ladies of the Central American countries and Mexico were also invited along with their government’s senior officials reponsible for unaccompanied children.
The President of Guatemala addressed the Forum underscoring its importance. The First Ladies of Honduras and Panama were present along with high ranking officials from Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Mexico and the United States.
The venue was spectacular, a conference center high on the top of a mountain overlooking the valley below.
Mr. McDonald was the fourth presenter at the event. For those in attendance, they stated that his remarks were well delivered and timely. In fact, at the conclusion of the session, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for Immigration, Rita Claverie, who was chairing the session, made reference to one of McDonald’s recommendations as most relevant for the work going forward.
A Regional Work Group is being established and Regis McDonald has a very good chance to be asked to join the group.
